Transspecies: crossing the cultural boundaries of species.
From [Alt+H] - “Some nonhuman-identifying folk use this label, often to denote that they have, will, or generally desire to modify their bodies to be more nonhuman/less human looking, and are often motivated by species dysphoria. Others may use it to describe a feeling of “being [X species] trapped in a human body”. Many who use the term do so because they are transgender and their species identity parallels this experience.”
Being transspecies means different things to different people. No one definition encompases the entire range of the experience possible under this term. It is best to read personal essays like the ones linked below to understand why some choose this term.

think. I wanted to be a male physically. Mentally I already was one to
some extent.
Uh things change I grew up."I'd imagine that many people question their gender identity now and
then. However, by definition, transsexuals never "grow out" of their
conflicting feelings; if anything, the tension only grows stronger with
age, having been a part of them from birth. In many ways I owe my awakening to being born this way, as it opened my
mind to the possibilities of being something different than what I
appeared to be. The intuitive leap from being trans-sexual to being
trans-species wasn't as difficult as it otherwise might have been <g>.LOL, maybe I just answered my own question as to why a chose to
incarnate this way ;)"...for now being human is my real self. I try to be me which is human
now but not forget the other parts of me."It's the same with me, both in transsexual and otherkin terms. I tend
to laugh and have fun with my "predicaments," which helps keep me sane
<g>. As you suggest, I too end up trying to play the roles expected of
me while never quite forgetting Who I Really Am. I try to balance the
two "truths" with one another without letting either one consume me.
Quite a challenge, wouldn't you agree? ;)Jhara Sihn"The Matrix is the world that has been pulled over

Academic articles can be helpful as well, though they can be denser and less accessable. These links are included for those interested, but are not required for understanding trasnsspecies as a term.
